Russian authorities say a gas tanker that recently docked in the Leningrad region was found to have magnetic mines embedded in its hull.
According to RT news agency, citing a statement from the Russian Investigative Committee (ICR), the agency recently opened an investigation into a "terrorist plot targeting the gas tanker Arrhenius docked at a port in the Leningrad province."
The ICR statement reads: “Divers discovered industrially manufactured magnetic mines from one of the NATO member states attached to the hull of the Arrhenius when the vessel arrived at the port of Ust-Luga. The mines were subsequently neutralized by agents of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), Ministry of Defense servicemen, and members of the Russian National Guard.”

Based on initial investigations, the ICR tentatively concluded that the magnetic mines discovered by divers "could not have been planted on the vessel while it was in Russian territorial waters." The Arrhenius reportedly visited the port of Antwerp in Belgium before docking at Ust-Luga, Russia on May 20th for refueling, with its final destination being the port of Samsun in Türkiye.
According to the captain's testimony, before unloading its cargo at the port of Antwerp in Belgium, the Arrhenius had anchored there for about a day and a half because port workers were on strike.
